Pre-Premier Check-In opens at 8:30am. Morning dancing starts at 9am.

RULES:

  • Competition will be run in accordance with the rules of the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (RSOBHD). 
  • Dancers MUST show a valid 2023 RSOBHD / SDUSA Registration card at check-in. Pre-Premier cards will be collected and held until after the morning awards presentation.
  • Dancers reporting late for their dance may not be allowed to dance. 
  • Judges may not adjudicate any competitor that they have instructed (including in-person or online classes or workshops) for a period of three months prior to the event. It is the dancer's responsibility to abide by this rule.
  • Registration deadline is Friday, August 18, 2023.
  • Dancers registered in the choreography competition must email their music (in mp3 format) to the organizer before the registration deadline. The choreography competition will follow RSOBHD choreography rules.
  • Dancers must remain in full costume until after awards have been presented.
  • By registering for this event, the competitor (or parent/guardian of the competitor) thereby agrees to accept and act in accordance with the above rules. 
  • Please be advised: By proceeding with this online registration, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators, waive and release the Virginia Scottish Games Association, their agents, representatives, successors, and agencies for any and all damages which may be suffered by myself/my child while attending or participating in the Virginia Scottish Games. I further authorize these authorities to use photographs or name of myself/my child participating at the Virginia Scottish Games for future promotional and publicity purposes, without obligation or liability to me. I acknowledge that by submitting this entry electronically, that I have read this agreement carefully and agree to abide by the rules and procedures for this competition as listed on this page.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

  • Men's and Women's changing areas will be available.
  • Age groups will be determined by the organizer according to the number of entries, and will be based upon the dancer's age as of September 2, 2023.
  • Dancers will compete in reverse order of entry received. Competitors' numbers will be distributed at dancer check-in.
  • Awards will be given to 6 places, whenever possible. Trophies awarded to the top dancer in each age group, except Primary. Cash prizes awarded for the two oldest Premier groups and to three places in both choreography groups.
  • Most Promising Beginner, Most Promising Novice, and Most Promising Intermediate Trophies will also be awarded (judge's choice). 
  • Tickets for the Virginia Scottish Games (required for all non-dancers) are available online at https://virginia-scottish-games.ticketleap.com/ or at the door.
  • Consider returning on Day #2 to enjoy the Games, including dance performances by a wide variety of Celtic dance groups!

  • There is ample free parking on site. Please follow the directions of the VSGA volunteers.

Restrictions

COVID-19 Recommendations: 

  • All attendees at this event must comply with state, local & venue health and safety laws, rules, and regulations for physical distancing and masking. We will be following the guidelines recommended by the CDC and the state of Virginia. It is the responsibility of all attendees to review these guidelines before coming to the competition.
  • If a person is feeling ill or has tested positive for COVID-19, he/she should not attend a SDUSA event.
  • Dancers may wear a mask while competing or remove the mask before dancing on stage in which case a bag should be used to place the mask at the back of the stage. If a dancer feels more comfortable wearing a mask in the marshalling area, they should bring their own bag.
  • Dancers and spectators should have a mask available if required by law or for any situation where they would feel more comfortable wearing a mask.
